Cases of malnutrition, however, occurring among the better class
families, though similar in number, do not show the same tendency to
decrease. The partaking of milk in schools, especially by the younger child,
seems to be more favoured than formerly.
The number of persons dying from cancer remains constant, but it must
be noticed that the greater proportion of the deaths from this disease are
from 55 years of age and upwards. Amongst the males the greater number
of fatal cases seems to be associated with the alimentary tract, whereas the
breast and uterus seem to be the predominating causes amongst the females.

The following causes of death are supplied by the Registrar-General and refer to deaths which were registered during the calendar year:—
