SCHOOLS.
As one would naturally expect, some of the older Schools in the
district are not so well off as the more modern Schools in respect of
arrangement of the rooms and corridors, the provision of staff rooms,,
cloak room accommodation and W.C. accommodation.
It may be of interest to the Committee to know that All Saints''
National School was opened in 1822, and St. James's National in
1872, and Brettenham Road Council School in 1882. These are the three
oldest, and the remarks made above regarding arrangement of rooms
certainly apply to them.
Unfortunately, even in some of the Schools erected in the 'eighties and
since, the type of water-closet erected was the " trough " form.
One is glad to see that these are being converted to separate flushing
pedestal closets. During 1933 this conversion was made in respect of
Raynham Road School; during 1932 a similar conversion was made at
Croyland Road Schools.
In addition, sanitary paper and the requisite fittings have been provided
at all Schools.
