Scarlet Fever.—Of the 448 cases of scarlet fever only 126
cases were removed to hospital. Since the outbreak of war accommodation
for cases of scarlet fever in the Isolation Hospital has
been much reduced and only in exceptional circumstances have
cases been admitted. There were no deaths from the disease.
Diphtheria.—All of the 13 cases of diphtheria were removed
to hospital. There were no deaths from this disease.
Diphtheria Immunization.—The protection of children by means
of immunization is considered on page 22.
Measles and Whooping Cough.—Measles and whooping
cough became notifiable under the Measles and Whooping Cough
Regulation, 1939. The following numbers of cases were notified :—
Measles 2,085
Whooping Cough 450
There were 4 deaths from whooping cough and 2 deaths
from measles.
