Marriages
The number of marriages solemnised in 1971 in the Croydon Registration District was as follows:—
Church of England | 932 |
Non-conformist places of worship | 533 |
The Register Office | 1,305 |
When supplying these figures Mr. Davies, the Croydon Superintendent
Registrar, kindly analysed recent trends and commented:-
"Of the total numbers of persons giving notice of marriage during the
year 6.01 per cent were minors, compared with 6.4 per cent in 1970 which
was the first year for comparison since the reduction of the age of majority
from twenty-one years to eighteen years, under the Family Law Reform Act
1969.
There has been a gradual increase in the number of marriages at the
Register Office since 1960 which it will be seen has been maintained in
1971."
