The conduct of Nursing Homes Regulations 1963, made under
the above Act, greatly strengthened the powers of local authorities.
The Corporation had already extensive requirements covering
all aspects of Nursing Homes, and over the years had applied
them by persuasion and agreement. A copy of the Regulations and
the Corporation's Schedule of Requirements, together with a note
about the approved number of patients for each room, were
circulated to the owners of all Nursing Homes registered in the
Borough. Two Nursing Homes closed during the year, one being the
largest and best equipped for acute cases. Plans for its replacement
on another site were going forward but no specific
proposals had been submitted to the Corporation. The majority of
places in other Nursing Homes cater for elderly and chronic sick
patients.
NURSES AGENCIES REGULATIONS, 1945
There is one agency on the Register which supplies nurses
for home nursing on a private patient paying basis.
