66
owned premises including sewage works, refuse tips, depots, school
kitchens and serveries, etc., are periodically inspected for the
presence of rodents and if infested then action is taken hy the
department to eradicate the pests. 46 infestations at such
premises were dealt with during the year.
The baiting of the Corporation's foul water sewers has now
been carried out at regular six monthly intervals since 1947.
The use of Warfarin, a comparatively new poison, in the sewers
over the past six half yearly treatments has proved satisfactory.
It was found at the last treatment, carried out in the
summer, that so few infestations were recorded, that the usual
winter treatment could be dispensed with.
It is necessary to keep a close watch on the sewers to ensure
that the present low infestation rate is maintained and a
thorough check will be made in the early part of 1961 in order
that any further infestation of the sewers is disclosed and
dealt with.
FOOD SUPPLY
The supervision and inspection of the food supplies is
carried out by the Public Health Inspectors who are all qualified
in food inspection.

The following table shows the distribution of trades among the 2, 772 premises in the Borough at which food is known to be sold, manufactured or stored.
