At the primary inspections vermin were found in 35 and nits
alone in 561 children. On these inspections 0.6 per cent. of the
children showed evidence of infestation as against 0.9 in 1954.
46 children attended the Cleansing Station for treatment.

Taking the total child population at 37,200, the pulmonary
tuberculosis incidence rate per 100,000 was 21.5, and the nonpulmonary
incidence rate 8.1. There was one death from tuberculosis.
CAUSES OF DEATH IN SCHOOL CHILDREN

Number of deaths 14, which is equal to a death-rate of 0.38
per 1,000.
