In addition to the above, Croydon Airport was visited on 28
occasions to inspect foodstuffs arriving by air from the Continent.
Such foodstuffs included Salami, Brawn and Delicacies. It was
not found necessary to condemn any article.

Disposal of Condemned Foodstuffs.
The Meat was condemned at either the Public Abattoir, the
Ministry of Food Depot or at shops supplied therefrom and was
disposed of by the Ministry. Some of the other condemned foods
are converted to animal feeding stuffs and the remainder are
destroyed.
MEAT INSPECTION.
This is carried out at the Public Abattoir, and the Government
Meat Depot from which all meat supplied to Croydon is
distributed. Butchers' shops are visited by the Sanitary Inspectors
to observe the condition of meat at time of sale.
The Public Abattoir was taken over by the Ministry of Food
in November, 1946, for the slaughtering of livestock, and during
the year 1953 the following animals were slaughtered there and
inspected by the Corporation's Meat Inspectors:—
