In January, 1950, through the courtesy of the Manager of the Grand
Theatre, Croydon, 36 children were taken to see the pantomime
"Mother Goose."
In September an untrained assistant was replaced by a trained
Mental Nurse.
On November 30th a Sale and Exhibition of Work was held for the
benefit of parents and others, the proceeds of the sale amounting to £13.
The parents were greatly impressed by the work completed by their
children, and numerous orders have been placed by the parents, thus
ensuring the full-time occupation of the children for many months.
In December the usual Christmas Party was given, and thanks to
the generous grant of the Committee, the Christmas Tree laden with
presents was again dismantled by Dr. Fleming, who acted as Father
Christmas. In spite of the restricted space, the children enjoyed the
tea and had a delightful party. Mrs. Cole, the Guide, contributed 18s.
towards the party—the money had been given her by neighbours.
A wireles set has been installed at the Centre.
Instruction at the Centre consists of classes in the following
subjects:—Cookery, laundry work, woodwork, stool seating, physical
training, handiwork, rug-making, knitting, embroidery, singing, speech
training, percussion band, sense and habit training.
