At the primary inspections vermin were found in 51 and nits
alone in 1,129 children. On these inspections 1.7 per cent. of the
children showed evidence of infestation as against 2.6 in 1949.

Taking the total child population at 34,080, the pulmonary
tuberculosis incidence rate per 100,000 was 23.5, and the nonpulmonary
incidence rate 14.6. There were no deaths from
pulmonary tuberculosis or from non-pulmonary tuberculosis.
CAUSES OF DEATH IN CHILDREN OF SCHOOL AGE.
Child population, 34,080.
Number of deaths 12, which is equal to a death-rate of 0.35 per 1,000.
