DIPHTHERIA.
53 cases were admitted with a diagnosis of diphtheria that
is 36 less than in 1946.
Of the 53 cases admitted 11 were found to be cases of positive
swabs (Diphtheria carriers), and 15 cases were as follows: —
Tonsillitis 6
Laryngitis 2
Coryza 2
Vincent's Angina 1
Glandular Fever 1
Diphtheria Contacts 3
Total 15
Thus only 27 cases of the 53 admitted were cases of true
Diphtheria, of which only 7 had been immunized.
There was 1 death. The child had not been immunized.
25 were cases of Faucial Diphtheria, 1 of Nasal Diptheria and
1 of Laryngeal Diphtheria.
The following complications occurred: —
Paralysis: Palate 8
Eyes 1
Pharynx 1
Myocarditis 6
Laryngeal obstruction 1
Secondary sore throat 2
Adenitis 1
