JUVENILE EMPLOYMENT RETURN.
The following numbers of children were examined by the medical officers during 1947 as to their fitness to following the part-time employment indicated:-

THE PROVISION OF MEALS AND MILK AND COD LIVER
OIL AND MALT.
During 1947 all milk was supplied free of charge, and
approximately 22,000 children per day received l/3rd pint each.
This was equal to 92 per cent. of the children attending schools.
All the milk supplied is pasteurised milk, and the sources
of supply are subject to the approval and constant supervision
of the Medical Officer of Health.
The number of meals supplied daily rose from 12,200 at the
beginning of 1947 to 15,100 at the end of 1947.
Malt and Oil is given free on the recommendation of the
School Medical Officer, and the following issues were made:-
