DIPHTHERIA.
44 cases were admitted with a diagnosis of diphtheria, a
decrease of 46 on 1943. Of these 12 were found not to be cases of
diphtheria and 11 were cases of positive swabs without clinical
symptoms, leaving 21 cases of true diphtheria.
There were no deaths amongst them.
The cases were all of the faucial type and there were no cases
of laryngeal diphtheria.
The following complications and sequelae occurred amongst
the diphtheria cases :—
Rhinorrhoea 2
Otorrhoea 1
Paralysis: Palatal 2
Eyes 1
Cardiac failure 2
Adenitis 1
Quinsy 1
The 12 cases found not to be diphtheria were as follows :—
Tonsillitis 11
Vincent's angina 1
