MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE CONSULTATIONS.
There are 10 Maternity and Child Welfare Centres, 16 of
which are conducted by the Croydon Mothers' and Infants'
Welfare Association, and 2 by the local Authority. A total
of 23 sessions per week are held, and at these a doctor and
nurse on the staff of the Health Department attend.
During 1940, 2655 new cases under 1 year of age, and
1104 over a year nf age attended for the first time; the
total of attendances of infants and young children from
0-5 years decreased from 79,714 in 1959 to 66,609 in 1940.
Consultations with doctors decreased from 21,511 to 21,375;
66 expectant mothers were seen, an Increase of 15 on 1939,
and a total of 394 visits to the Centres were paid by them.
The total of all visits to the Centres was 67,003ba decrease
of 13,216 compared with 1939.
The highest average attendance of mothers and babies
at each session was recorded at South Croydon (83.8),
Municipal (73.4), Woodside (69.7) and Boston Road (68.4).

The amount received for attendance fees was £70 15s. 0d. as compared
with £75 8s. 6d. in 1939.
