The "Definite and Active Group" included besides cases of frank rheumatic
carditis, those with narked physical signs of Rheumatic Fever or Chorea.

Rheumatic manifestations. Total 16 cases.

Tonsi llitis-

Two children gave a definite history of Rheumatic Fever.
Fgiily Histories.
In the case of 3 families (18,8%) cither the father or the mother had had
rheumatic fever,, chorea or juvenile rheumatism. In 3 other cases, (18.8%) a
history of rheumatism was obtained in near relatives of the parents. In the
case of 2 children (12.5%) the in brothers or sisters gave a similar history
of rheumatic manifestations.

Nervous Conditions.

Recorded in 16 cases.

Children recorded as highly strung2 (12. 5%)

Twitehings2 (12. 5%)

Often a combination of more than one of -the above symptoms was manifested.
Tonsillectony
Operation reported in 4 cases (25.0??)
Re-examinations
One hundred and seventeen re-inspections were carried out. In no case
had the conditions become worse; 15 (12.3%) was considered to be non-rheumatic;
12 (10.3%) stationary; 23 (19,7%) were definitely improved; and 67 (57.3%)
quiescent.
PL HID, DEAF, DEFECTIVE MP EPILEPTIC CHILDREN
Blind Children.
Ten boys end 3 girls are resident at special schools for the blind. The
institutions which these children attend arc as follows: Royal Normal College
fat- the Blind, 5 boys j Barclay Blind School, Brighton, 2 girls; Suns line Homes,
East Grinstead, 1 boy. Chorley Wood College, 1 boy; White Oak, Swanloy, 1 boy;
Court Grange, 1 boy; Brighton School for the Blind, 1 boy.
The Committee are also responsible for the maintenance of two girls at
the Goodrich Road (L.C.C.) School for Partially- Sighted Children.
St. Lukes Special School for Partially Sighted Children.
This school, which ms evacuated to Eastbourne, was disbanded during the
early part of the year, when there were 11 children in attendance.
