REPORT ON SCHOOL MEDICAL WORK.
THE STAFF AND GENERAL ORGANISATION OF THE
WORK.
The medical inspecting staff consists, as in 1916, of two medicals
—one lady and one gentleman—both of whom give only part time to
the School work.
SCHOOLS.
No. of Schools and Accommodation.
In 1917 there were in Croydon :
20 provided schools, including 54 departments. Five
schools have been taken over for Military hospital
purposes, and temporary premises have been rented, so
that the accommodation is approximately as in 1916.
15 non-provided schools, including 34 departments. There
has not been any change in the accommodation of
non-provided schools.
The total provision in 1917 in the borough for elementary school
children amounted to 35 schools, with 88 departments.
The number of children on the register on December 31st, 1917,
was 25,187, as compared with 25,323 in 1916.
School Buildings and Accommodation.
War Hospitals. Five schools are still in the hands of the Military
Authorities for this purpose. The school children thus displaced have
been accommoaaed either in other schools for half-day work or in
otner buildings. The medical inspections have been carried out
normally in every case.
Sanitary Work.
The sanitary arrangements of all the schools have been regularly
inspected during the year. They have been generally well kept and in
a clean condition.
