The corresponding total for 1909 was only 4,360. This increase
was partly due to the improvement in the office organisation
already referred to and part to my having undertaken the personal
inspection of a considerable number of children in order that the
requirements of the school Code should be complied with. In
addition to the children whose medical inspection schedules were
completed during the year, 865 children were re-inspected to
ascertain progress and 832 children specially inspected at the
request of the teachers or for other reasons.
GENERAL DIRECTIONS TO PARENTS.
In 1,318 instances written directions were sent to parents, while
in 3,546 instances printed or verbal directions were given.
