The 583 live births notified is an increase of only
17 compared with last year's figure. The birth rate per
1,000 of the population is 22 the same as last year. The
birth rate for England and Wales is 20.5.
Deaths.
This year we recorded 271 Deaths out of a population
of 26.610, representating a Death rate of 10.2 as
against 9.7 in 1946.
Infant Deaths.
During the year 21 infants died before reaching
the age of one year.
Rate of Infant Deaths under one year, per 1,000
live births is 36 as against 37 last year. That of England
and Wales 41.
