INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
MILK.
Milk and Dairies Regulations, 1949 - 1954.
In accordance with these Regulations, the handling, distribution
and sale of milk after leaving the point of production
continued to receive the necessary supervision.
The entries in the register, which has to be kept, were as
follows:—
Distributors of Milk in the district 18
Premises registered as Dairie 2
During the year one of the registered Dairies stopped processing
milk and obtained its supplies in bottles from outside the
District. The remaining Dairy is equipped with pasteurising plant
and is licensed by the Council under the provisions of the Milk
(Special Designation) (Pasteurised and Sterilised Milk) Regulations,
1949-1953.
By virtue of the Milk (Special Designations) (Specified Areas)
Order, 1951, which came into operation on the 1st October of that
year, the use of a special designation became obligtory in respect
of all sales of milk within the Urban District.
Milk Sampling.
The routine sampling of milk was continued and a total of
326 samples was submitted for bacteriological and biological
examination, with the results set out in the following tables:—
