The following table shows the treatment given during 1954, and the proportion of children estimated to have been immunised:–

Centres and Clinics (including day nurseries).
Number who completed Primary treatment379
Number of "Booster" doses given144
Schools.
Number who completed Primary treatment24
Number of "Booster" doses given964
General Practitioners.
Number who completed Primary treatment385
Number given "Boosters"484
Proportion of children estimated to have been immunised:—
(a) from 1-5 years67%
(b) from 5-14 years92%

The total number of primary treatments was slightly more
that last year but 784 more children received boosting doses.
As a result the percentage of children aged 1 to 5 years estimated
to have been immunised was slightly higher, but the proportion
of school children who have been treated during the last 5
years, and who can therefore be considered to be sufficiently
immune, is only about 73%. There is therefore room for improvement
in all age groups.

VACCINATION.

The following table shows the number of vaccinations performed in the District during 1954:—

Welfare Centres.
Primary vaccinations227
General Practitioners.
Primary vaccinations 0-15 years382
„ „ over 15 years46
Re-vaccinations 0-15 years27
„ over 15 years107

The number of primary vaccinations was 87 more than last
year, and it is good to find that about 64% of the babies born in
1954 were vaccinated compared with 60% in the 2 previous years.
If this percentage can be maintained it will be very satisfactory.
