INFANT MORTALITY
There were 28 deaths of infants under one year of age in 1963,
the same as in the previous year. The infant mortality rate for
the year was 19.4 per 1,000 total live births, which is slightly
lower than the rate of 20.9 for the country as a whole.

The table which follows gives the Chislehurst and Sidcup mortality rate for legitimate and illegitimate infants, as well as for all infants, and also shows the comparison between the infant mortality rate in the Urban District and that of England and Wales during the past 10 years.

There were two maternal deaths in the Urban District in
1963, giving a maternal mortality rate of 1.36 per 1,000 live and
still births.
The rate for England and Wales as a whole was 0.28 per
1,000 live and still births.
