SLUM CLEARANCE.
Detailed inspections were carried out in connection with ten
houses with a view to representation being made by the Medical
Officer of Health early in 1957.
An additional house which had been seriously damaged by
enemy action but not included in the "five year programme"
was closed under Section II of the Housing Act 1936 and
Sections 10 (1) and 11 (2) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous
Provisions) Act 1953. The tenants did not take advantage of the
alternative accommodation offered by the Council.
HOUSING ACT, 1949.
During the year 34 applications for Improvement urants
were received and a similar number approved. The total amount
of grants made was £5,198.
Six applications were made in respect of conversions, two of
which were approved. The total amount of the grant in these
cases was £687 10s.
CERTIFICATES OF DISREPAIR.
Very little use has been made of the appropriate Sections of
the Housing Repairs and Rents Act 1954. Only four applications
were received during the year of which three were granted. One
Certificate issued in 1954 was revoked.
New Houses.
During the course of the year, 281 new houses were erected in
the area including 64 flats.
