DRAINAGE AND SEWERAGE.
The Engineer and Surveyor has kindly furnished the following
details of work carried out:—
Extensions to Public Sewers carried out during the year :—
Foul Sewers.
Leesons Hill, St. Paul's Cray 1,075 yards.
Sidcup By-pass 113 yards.
Storm Water Sewers.
Leesons Hill, St. Paul's Cray 1,071 yards.
In addition, 91 yards of foul sewers and 166 yards of storm
water sewers have been laid in connection with private housing
estates.
RIVERS AND STREAMS.
It has not been necessary to carry out any constructional work
to the streams in the district for which the Council is responsible.
Day to day maintenance has received attention.
CESSPOOLS.
Two new buildings with cesspool drainage were erected in 1955.
Twenty-five cesspools are known to have been abolished, mainly
in consequence of the construction of the sewer at Leesons Hill. The
desirability of connecting premises to the sewer, when available, has
been brought to the notice of owners concerned.

There are now 455 premises not connected to main drainage.

In a number of cases two or more properties are drained to the
same cesspool. The total number of cesspools in use in the district
is believed to be 359.
The Cesspool Emptying Service instituted by the Council in
1954 has functioned satisfactorily. A charge of 7/6 is made for the
removal of 600 gallons from private houses and 15/- per 600 gallons
for other premises.
Continuous efforts have been made to bring to the notice of
property owners the advantage of emptying their cesspools
