It is a very valuable service, especially at a time when there are
long waiting lists for hospital admission.
Health Visiting.
Nine Health Visitors, two School Nurses and one Tuberculosis
Health Visitor are employed by the County Council on work
within the Urban District. The Health Visitors attend Welfare
Centres, Clinics in connection with immunisation against
diphtheria and vaccination against smallpox, etc., and carry out
home visiting in respect of Child Life Protection, After Care, etc.
Midwifery (Domiciliary).
Nine midwives are engaged whole-time in domiciliary midwifery
in the area. The services of the midwives are engaged
direct by the patient or through the patient's private doctor, and
the midwives act either as midwives or maternity nurses.
The County Council is the supervising Authority under the
National Health Service Act, 1946.
