The birth rate increased slightly from 15.8 to 16.0 per thousand live births compared with
18.00 for England and Wales. The infant mortality rate was the same as in 1970. i.e. 16.0.
It is gratifying to know that the death rate in Bexley remains lower than in England and
Wales, but it would have been even more gratifying if a reduction had been achieved over the
previous year.
