GENERAL MIDWIFERY PROVISION
A comprehensive domiciliary midwifery service is available in the Borough, the Council employing
a Supervisor, Deputy Supervisor and 15 Midwives in 1969.
In addition, there are three general practitioner maternity units at the Maternity Hospitals and
an obstetric unit at Queen Mary's Hospital, with 56 beds. This unit opened in 1966 and in 1969
had a staff of 76 midwives.
