MEASLES
During 1968 vaccine became available for protection against measles for children who had not
had the disease. As this vaccine was in short supply it was necessary to restrict this protection to
various sections of the child population. Vaccination was first offered to all children between 4
years and 7 years and to children attending day nurseries, play groups and nursery schools. Letters
were sent by post to the parents of all children born between 1st April 1963 and 31st July 1964
via the schools to parents of children at infants' schools.
