The work is carried out by Contract under the supervision
of the Sanitary Inspector, the refuse being carted
on to arable land and ploughed in. It is found to be
very useful when worked into heavy land. Apart from
any manurial value its mechanical action upon this land
is very beneficial.
The question of the disposal of the refuse has, as
in previous years, been a subject to which some attention
has been given.
The district is growing rapidly and how long the
present means can be utilised depends largely upon
building operations.
The quantity of London refuse dumped at the Cravford
end of the St. Mary's Ward, has been negligible
and in the interests of the inhabitants, it is hoped that
the practice has been discontinued for good.
Such cesspools as remain are cleansed under the
supervision of the Surveyor's Department.
SANITARY INSPECTION OF THE AREA.
A detailed statement of the work carried out under
this heading is to be found in the Report of the Sanitary
Inspector.
