Population.—The population according to the census of 1901
was 37,744.
The following table shows the number of the population and the inhabited houses at the five preceding censuses:—

The increase of population by excess of births over deaths
during the year amounted to 692, as against 552 in 1900.
Birth Rate.—During the year 1901 there were 1,211 births
registered. The birth rate per 1,000 persons living was 32.0. The
London birth rate was 28.0.

DEATH RATE.
General Mortality.—There were 519 deaths registered. The
recorded general death rate was 13 7 per 1,000 of the population.
The London death rate was 18.3 per 1,000.
