POPULATION.
Every year as we move onwards from the census of 1891 all vital
calculations become more and more doubtful; but it is only a question
of a few months, and we shall once more have a correct estimation of
the population of Acton.
Adopting the usual method of allowing six persons to each occupied
house, the population is assumed to be 38,406. It will be interesting
to see how far these figures coincide with the true census which will
shortly be taken.
The number of inhabited houses in the middle of 1900 was 6,401.
The following table shows the number of the population and inhabited houses at the four preceding censuses:—
Year. | Inhabited Houses. | Population. |
---|---|---|
3,151 | ||
The number of the population and inhabited houses since
Year. | Inhabited Houses. | Population. |
---|---|---|
1896 | 4,909 | 29,454 |
The increase of population by excess of births over deaths during
the year amounted to 552; as against 459 in the preceding year, and
488 in 1898.
