18 transferable deaths of non-residents which occurred
in this Borough, the corrected number of deaths of
residents registered last year was 1,593. On the beforementioned
estimated population, the corrected number
of deaths of residents registered last year was equal to
an annual rate of 130 deaths per 1,000 persons living.
The death rate in London on the estimated population
of London up to the middle of the year was equal to an
annual rate of 13.6 deaths per 1,000 persons living.
DEATHS OF INFANTS.
The corrected number of deaths of residents
under one year of age registered last year was 261,
against 434 in the previous year. The number of
deaths of infants under one year of age registered last
year was equal to 164 per 1,000 of the total corrected
deaths of residents registered, and to 91 per 1,000 of
the total corrected registered births. The number of
deaths of infants under one year of age, residents in
London last year, was equal to 165 per 1,000 of the total
deaths registered, and 91 per 1,000 of the total registered
births. The mortality rate of infants under one year of
age was, as compared with the total deaths of residents
registered, 1 per 1,000 less in this Borough than in
London, and the same as compared with the total
births registered in this Borough as in London. The
great reduction of infant mortality in this Borough and
in London was due to the low temperature during the
summer months and the consequent small number of
deaths from summer diarrhoea.
The following table on infantile mortality has been
prepared by me in accordance with the direction of the
Local Government Board.
