There are estimated to be some 7,000 persons using Smithfield Market daily, which figure
includes:—
approximately 600 porters licensed by the Superintentent of the Market, including some
120 freelance porters popularly known as "bummarees".
some 200 pitchers who arrive at the Market with the various meat vans, unload the vehicles
and leave the Market again on the vans.
tenants' staffs, buyers and their staffs.
there are 357 stalls on the Market occupied by approximately 110 tenants.

Foodstuffs, in addition to meat, condemned as unfit for human consumption as a result of the inspection of food landed at Riverside Wharves and in grocers shops, cafes, restaurants, etc., amounted to 76 tons 9 cwts. 0 qrs. 3 lbs. which was disposed of as follows:-

FERTILISERS AND FEEDING STUFFS ACT. 1926
This Act required sellers of certain specified fertilisers and feeding stuffs for cattle or
poultry to furnish purchasers with a statutory statement indicating the name under which the
article is sold and the amount, if any, of certain scheduled ingredients.
