Rota visits to
the schools.

Table: The special schools were visited at least once a quarter, and every child present was seen at least once during the year. The total number of examinations made was 17,960, and in addition 567 special examinations were made of children already on the rolls of special schools in connection with applications for non-enforcement of attendance and for similar reasons. As a result of the rota examinations the following re-classifications took place :—

After trial in a special school, 70 children were excluded (51 as imbecile, 15 as
feeble-minded ineducable and 4 as feeble minded " detrimental") and 34 were
invalided on medical grounds.

Table: There were also 625 cases returned, on improvement, to elementary schools, or when over 14 years of age, deemed to be no longer certifiable. The details are as follow:—
