The following table is of interest as showing the rapidity with which influenza may increase from small to epidemic proportions, and the fact that the mortality from the disease has usually attained its maximum in the late autumn or winter months.

The Registrar-General, in the annual summaries relating to London and other large
towns, since the year 1893, has distributed the deaths from phthisis, occurring in public institutions
belonging to London, to the sanitary districts to which they belong, and it is therefore
possible to compare the phthisis death rates of the various sanitary districts.
