Particulars of all new casesof Tuberculosis and of alldeathsfrom this disease during 1938 are given in the following table in the form required by the Ministry of Health :—

The total number of Primary notifications was 283 ; in addition to these, 20 cases
which had not been notified, came to knowledge by means of special death reports, and
62 cases by transfer from other districts. The total number of new cases during the year
from all sources was therefore 365, equal to a notification rate of 2.03 per 1,000 of population,
compared with 391 new cases during the previous year.
The deaths from all forms of Tuberculosis during the year numbered 133, equal to a
death rate of 0.74 per 1,000 of population, whereas the total number of deaths in the previous
year was 162.
It will be noted that, out of a total of 133 deaths from Tuberculosis, 20 (being 15 per
cent.) were of cases which were notified only at death.
Death from tuberculosis before notification may be due to:—(1) Sudden death of a
person who has not consulted a doctor since tuberculosis has developed. (2) Sudden death of
