Section 1.-STATISTICS AND SOCIAL CONDITIONS OF THE AREA.
POPULATION AND GENERAL STATISTICS.
The total population of the Borough at the Census of 1931 was 198,133.
The Census figure of 198,133 represents a decrease in the population of the Borough
of 6'3 per cent, since the Census of 1921, at which date the figure was 211,36(5.
The mid-year (1934) population of the Borough is estimated by the Registrar-General
to be 187,540, the corresponding estimate for the previous year (1933) being 190,900.
Until recently the estimated population has been divided into civil and total, but for
the past two years the estimated total population only is given. Deaths of persons serving
in II.51. Forces are now allocated to their area of residence in the same manner as civilian
deaths.
