which the Metropolitan Borough Councils are to contribute, and the scheme provided for the
payment during the fixed grant period to the various voluntary associations of contributions of
such amounts as may be specified in the scheme. Each of the annual contributions were to
be paid either in a single sum before the 30th of September in each year, or in equal
quarterly or half-yearly instalments.
The associations in respect of which the County Council make contributions are
principally those providing residential accommodation.
The following are those to which the St. Pancras Borough Council make contributions,
the amount being also stated : —

The payment of the above-mentioned contributions is subject to the following
conditions:—
1. That the Borough Council are satisfied as to the efficiency of the maternity and child
welfare service provided by the association in respect of which the contribution is
payable, and that such service is being used by a reasonable number of those
persons for whom it is provided;
2. That no reduction or alteration of such service is made without the consent of the
Borough Council;
3. That such service, and any premises in which it is carried on, are open to inspection
at all reasonable times by any officer of the Borough Council duly authorised by the
Council, and by any officer of the Ministry of Health appointed for that purpose by
the Minister;
*The grant allocated by the Ministry of Health to the Margaret Day Nursery was based on the expenditure
incurred during the standard year (1929) at the old premises then occupied in Ampthill Square. The Committee of
the Nursery had, however, acquired a site in Clarendon Square on which a large and well designed day nursery was
erected. The accommodation in the new premises was very much greater, and although the expenses were necessarily
higher, no increase in the grant made by the Minister could be obtained until the expiration of the period of
three years for which the amount of grant had been fixed.
Under these circumstances, the Borough Council very generously decided to make a grant of £390 per annum
for a period of two years towards the cost of the new premises. At the end of this time the position could be reviewed,
as a new scheme would then be made by the Minister of Health.
†Owing to the amalgamation of the Grafton Road with the Camden Town Centre and the Argyle Square with the
Somers Town Centre the above scheme has been amended by the Minister of Health. The grants to the Grafton
Road and Argyle Square Centres have been cancelled and the grants to the Camden Town and Somers Town Centres
have been increased to £324 and £275 respectively.
