Additional Housing Schemes in the Borough.
During the past year the St. Pancras House Improvement Society, Ltd., have further
developed their schemes in the Somers Town area. An additional block of dwellings has been
opened and another is in course of development. The London County Council are also making
progress with their schemes in the Ossulston Street area.
In the west of the Borough the Crown Estate are developing an area in the neighbourhood
of Cumberland Market. Two blocks of dwellings are nearly ready for occupation and
others are well advanced. When the scheme is fully developed it is anticipated that 800
working-class flats will be provided.
Section V.—INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
(a) MILK SUPPLY.
Cowsheds.—There are now no licensed cowsheds in the Borough.
Dairies and Milkshops.—Twenty-six applications for registration under the Milk and
Dairies Order, 1926, were received and granted during the year.
Eighteen applications in respect of itinerant vendors were also received and granted.

The following list gives particulars as to the purveyors of milk on the register at the end of 1931 :—

In addition to the above, the following were also on the register at the end of 1931 : —
5 persons (firms) in respect of premises where a wholesale trade in milk is done.

and 24 itinerant vendors without retail milkshops.
Milk, in Sealed Containers.
Daring the year 45 persons were registered to sell milk in sealed containers, and 17 were
removed from the register. At the end of the year there were 135 persons on this register.
Milk Sampling out of Office Hours.
Requests are received from time to time from other Metropolitan Boroughs for samples
of milk to be taken by the Food Inspectors at railway stations within St. Pancras early in the
morning.
The Milk and Dairies (Consolidation) Act, which came into force on September 1st,
1925, provides for this duty, and Section 8 (4) of the Act states: " The Authority requiring
the samples to be taken shall be liable to defray any reasonable expenses incurred, the
amount whereof shall, in default of agreement, be settled by the Local Government Board
[Ministry of Health]."
