Dairies, Cowsheds and Milkshops.
Cowsheds.— At the end of 1921 there were two licensed cowsheds in the Borough. They
are registered for 43 cows, but were occupied by 13.
Milkshops and Dairies.— 36 applications for registration under the Dairies, Cowsheds
and Milkshops Orders, in respect of milkshops, were considered during 1921, of which 34 were
acceded to and two refused. Eleven applications in respect of itinerant vendors were also
considered and acceded to.
The figures in regard to the registration of milkshops are set out below:—

At the end of 1921 there were on the register in addition to these 203 retail milkshops
and 2 cowsheds (which are attached to retail milkshops included in the 203), one person in
respect of premises where only a wholesale milk trade is done, and 10 itinerant vendors without
retail milkshops.
Legal proceedings were taken in one instance against a vendor carrying on the trade
of purveyor of milk without being registered. His premises were considered to be unsuitable
for the sale of milk. The particulars were as follows:—

The Public Health (Milk and Cream) Regulations, 1912 and 1917.
The following is the Report of the Administration in connection with the above regulations
asked for by the Ministry of Health.

PUBLIC HEALTH (MILK AND CREAM) REGULATIONS, 1912 AND 1917. Report for Year ended 31st December, 1921.

1. Milk, and Cream not sold as Preserved Cream.

Nature of preservative in each case in column (b) and action taken under Regulations in regard to it:—
C. 177. Cream. 0.028 per cent. boron trioxide, equal to 0.0496 per cent. of crystallised boric acid.
Proceedings taken under the Milk and Cream Regulations, 1912, for delivering in a receptacle
not labelled. Summons withdrawn on payment of £2 2s. costs, 7th October.
