PUBLIC HEALTH (MILK AND CREAM) REGULATIONS, 1912.
Report for Year ended 31st December, 1915.

1. Milk, and Cream not sold as Preserved Cream.

(a) Number of samples examined for the presence of a preservative.(b) Number in which a preservative was reported to be present.

Nature of preservative in each case in column (b) and action taken under Regulations
in regard to it:—
Cream. 0.14 per cent, boron trioxide, equal to 0.248 per cent, of
crystallised boric acid.
„ 0.133 per cent, boron trioxide, equal to 0.235 per cent, of
crystallised boric acid.
,, 0.105 per cent, boron trioxide, equal to 0.186 per cent, of
crystallised boric acid.
„ 0.11 per cent, of boron trioxide, equal to 0.195 per cent, of
crystallised boric acid.
In all these cases an explanation was asked of and furnished (by letter) by the
vendors and a warning letter addressed to the vendors by order of the Public
Health Committee. No legal proceedings were instituted.
2. Cream sold as Preserved, Cream.
(а)Instances in which samples have been submitted for analysis to ascertain if
the statement on the label as to preservatives were correct:—

preserved cream in advertisements, price lists, or trade lists) have not
been observed. Nil.
(ii)Instances where (apart from analysis) the requirements as to labelling or
declaration of preserved cream under the proviso in Article V. (2)(as to
the placing of notices in a conspicuous position or making statements on
bills of fare, or giving similar information by some other adequate means
