Thin increase in the death-rate is disquieting, and is found, on examination
of the various causes of death, to be due to a general rise all round, and not
to a special increase in any one cause.
The Wards are set out in the table below in order according to their death-rates.
Ward. | Death-rate per 1000 population. | Ward. | Death-rate per 1000 population. |
---|---|---|---|
7 | 13.1 | 8 | 16.1 |
1 | 13.8 | 2 | 16.6 |
5 | 15.2 | 4 | 16.8 |
3 | 15.9 | 6 | 18.8 |
1,863 deaths occurred in Public Institutions in the Borough. Taking from
these the number which were of non-parishioners (637), and adding the
number of deaths of St. Pancras parishioners in Public Institutions outside
the Borough (656—both from the Registrar-General's figures), the number of
St. Pancras deaths which took place in Public Institutions is shown to be 1,882,
or 53.1 per cent. of the total deaths.
Thus, of the St. Pancras parishioners whose death took place during the
year, more than one-half died in Public Institution.
