327 births occurred in Public Institutions in the Borough, and are tabulated
in table 6 on page 126.
These are equal to 6.6 per cent, of the total births which took place in the
Borough.
Table 5 on page 125 shows the birth-rate for 1914 of England and Wales,
the County of London, the several Metropolitan Boroughs, and the 30 large
towns with a population exceeding 125,000. It should be noted that the
St. Pancras figures are shown in the table on the basis of the RegistrarGeneral's
estimate of the population, which, as explained before, differs from
the estimate made in this report.
Illegitimacy.
Of the 4,945 births which were registered in the Borough 187, or 3-78 per
cent., were returned as illegitimate.

Of the 5,225 births to parishioners within and without the Borough 230, or
4.40 per cent., were registered as illegitimate. This is the figure which is to
be taken as representing the proportion of illegitimate births in the St. Pancras
population.
The Notification of Births Act, 1907.
Notifications were received during the year of 4,674 births, or 94.5 per cent,
of the total births occurring in the Borough.
