The next table shows the number of deaths of infants and the rates of infantile mortality for the several Registration Sub-Districts for the past 8 years:—
Infantile Mortality. | West St. Pancras. | South St. Pancras. | East St. Pancras. | North St. Pancras. | Whole Borough. |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
140 | 106 | 149 | 117 | 512 | |
101 | 102 | 90 | 80 | 93 | |
Infantile Mortality rate for year 1905 | 130 | 165 | 139 | 116 | 136 |
„ „ 1906 | 131 | 148 | 130 | 119 | 131 |
„ „ 1907 | 107 | 144 | 130 | 84 | 114 |
„ „ 1908 | 126 | 128 | 115 | 94 | 115 |
„ „ 1909 | 125 | 127 | 99 | 90 | 119 |
„ „ 1910 | 108 | 108 | 128 | 85 | 108 |
„ „ 1911 | 130 | 94 | 113 | 107 | 112 |
„ „ 1912 | 96 | 83 | 95 | 76 | 88 |
It will be seen that the rate for 1913 was, with the exception of that for
1912, less than any formerly recorded.
The number of deaths of illegitimate children under one year of age during
1913 was 44. This is equal to a death-rate of 170 per 1,000 illegitimate births.
By difference the number of deaths of legitimate children under one year of
age was 468, equal to a death-rate of 89 per 1,000 legitimate births.
The rate of mortality amongst illegitimate children was therefore nearly
twice (191 per cent.) that amongst legitimate children.
The illegitimate births and deaths according to the registrars' returns
are classified below in registration sub-districts:—
West. South. East. North. Whole
Borough.
Number of Births 80 52 64 63 259
Number of deaths under one year of age 15 19 6 4 44
The infantile mortality occurring during the whole year per 1,000 births is
classified in the following table according to the quarter of the year in which
the deaths took place, and the corresponding figures are given for each of the
past 8 years:—
