3.—He shall keep the Mortuaries, the Coroner's Court, the Waiting-room,
&c., in a cleanly state, and in good working order, and shall take
charge of all dead bodies, and keep them in proper and decent custody,
until they are removed from the Mortuaries.
4.—He shall enter, or cause to be entered, in books kept for those purposes,
all the particulars that shall be required concerning dead bodies
received into the Mortuaries and removed therefrom, and also of all
inquests held in the Coroner's Court.
5.—He shall affix to the coffin a card bearing the name and age of the
deceased.
6.—He shall, in the event of his finding any property on any body taken
to the Mortuary, make a list of the articles so found, and stall
forthwith deliver them—
If an Inquest is held—To the Coroner's Officer, or Police
Constable in charge of the case.
If no Inquest is held—To the immediate relatives of the deceased,
or, if the body is not claimed, to the Relieving Officer.
He shall take charge of the clothing of the deceased, and, if it is not
required by the Coroner or the Police, he shall deliver it to the
relatives, or to the Relieving Officer, as the case may be.
7.—He shall see that the Regulations for depositing bodies in the
Mortuaries are duly carried out; and shall give notice to the Medical
Officer of Health, from time to time, of any circumstances that may
require his attention.
8.—He shall every week (namely, on Monday morning) deliver to the
Clerk to the Sanitary Department a return of the work done during
the week, and shall bring with him the books referred to above. He
shall further (on Monday) pay to the Clerk all monies received by
him from the Coroner for the use of the Court for the purpose of
Inquests, such fees having been previously entered as received in the
book kept for that purpose.
9.—He shall take charge of the keys, open and shut the gates, and undertake
the entire oversight of the Coroner's Court, Mortuaries and Disinfecting
Chambers, and cognate buildings, for the purpose of safety during
the night, and the maintenance of good order and prevention of
damage during the day, and shall perform all such other duties as may
be directed by the Sanitary Committee or the Medical Officer of
Health.
