to receive a complaint. It is otherwise with regard to house refuse or dust, and it
would be impossible to inspect 25,000 houses as frequently as a few dozen stableyards,
but the reason undoubtedly is the inability under the present method of
securing constant regular removal. How this could best be secured, would require
a long special report, but that it can be done is shown by several London Parishes,
and St. Pancras would benefit materially in health, especially in the poorer and
densely populated districts, by the more frequent removal of decomposing matter.
Instructions to tenement lodgers are of little use for such an organization.

SLAUGHTER HOUSES.
There are 37 Licensed Slaughter Houses in the Parish, and during the year they
have been kept in cleanly condition, and with due observance to the Bye-laws
regulating them.
COW SHEDS.
There are 48 Licensed Cow Sheds in the Parish, they have been kept in cleanly
condition and the regulations complied with.
DAIRIES AND MILKSHOPS.
The supervision of Dairies and Milk-shops, is not placed in the hands of the
Sanitary Authorities in the Metropolis, as it is over the rest of the country, but in
the hands of the Metropolitan Board of Works.
