It should be stated that the number of St. Pancras houses in each of the circles has been counted with as much care as
possible, and the total number of houses in each circle in 1884 is made the basis of calculation. As a matter of fact there has been
some increase of houses between the years 1880 and 1881, but this has been examined and is not found to be sufficient to disturb
the results.
The number of houses in the "rest of Parish" is the total number of inhabited houses in the Parish at the Census of 1881,
with the numbers of St. Pancras houses in the special area deducted. The actual number of houses ia the rest of the Parish is
larger than that given, but it is convenient that the error should be such as to minimize rather than exaggerate the appearance of
any effects of any small pox hospital influence.
