Usually this disease is not equally prevalent throughout
the year, by far the greater number of cases occurring during
the autumn months. This autumnal increase was especially
marked in London last year, thus in St. Pancras in the
six weeks beginning September 18th, and ending October
29th, sixteen deaths occurred of the 56 which were registered
during the year in St. Pancras..
Simple Continued Fever.
Eight deaths were registered as occurring from Simple
Continued Fever during 1881, being twice the number during
the preceding year.
Measles.
There were 172 deaths from measles in 1881; 34.2 in
every 1000 deaths from all causes were due from this disease.
The average proportion of deaths from measles to 1000 deaths
from all causes during the last ten years was 20 5.
Calculated upon the population, the death-rate from Measles
was in 1881, 7.2 per 10,000 living. In London measles
caused 32.4 of every 1000 deaths, and 6.6 for every 10,000 of
population living. When the deaths occurring in hospitals
are referred back to the districts to which they belonged
they occurred in these districts in the proportion shown in
the following table. No address could be found for four who
died in the Workhouse, and these are therefore excluded:—
