Vision
In the majority of primary schools routine tests have been introduced
for children soon after entry. Although vision-testing of
young children requires a modified technique and additional staff
it is hoped that in due course the service will become available
in every school.
During the year vision tests were carried out on 7,083 boys and
6,615 girls, a total of 13,698 children, compared with 6.644 boys
and 6,311 girls (12,955 children) in 1967. The percentage of the
number tested with and without glasses who were referred for
treatment or observation was 15.9, compared with 17.1 in 1967.
