PART 3
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
The year under review has been as busy as any and although it
has not been possible to increase the staff of public health
inspectors, the success of one student in passing the Diploma
Examination made up for the loss of an inspector who moved to
another post.
The basic work of the department has been dealt with and the
Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth (No. 7) and the London
Borough of Wandsworth (No. 1) Smoke Control Orders were confirmed
during the year and conversions in both areas are now
well in hand.
The Food Hygiene (Markets, Stalls and Delivery Vehicles)
Regulations, 1966, which came into operation on 1st January, 1967.
caused a deal of preliminary field work during the year and meetings
were held to discuss the application of the Regulations with
the stallholders concerned. Much work has still to be done in
this connection.
More than the usual number of consignments of frozen prawns
and lobsters have been dealt with. The Port of London Authority,
when unable to deal with consignments, releases them to a cold
store within the Borough, and it is then necessary for sampling for
bacteriological impurity to be carried out before releasing the consignments
for human consumption.
