Bacteriological Examinations
Towards the end of the year a new Joint Microbiology and
Public Health Laboratory was opened at St. George's Hospital,
Tooting, to which all specimens taken in connection with food
poisoning and infectious diseases are now sent for examination.
The Director of the Laboratory is Dr. S. Fleck, and I am happy to
record that in the short time that has elapsed since the inception of
the laboratory close and friendly liaison has been established
between Dr. Fleck and his staff and the staff of the Health Department.
Bacteriological examination of food specimens continued to be
carried out at the Public Health Laboratory at County Hall to
whose Director, Dr. A. J. H. Tomlinson, I would once again
express my thanks for the continued help and assistance received
from his staff during the year.

A combined total of 4,350 bacteriological examinations were carried out at the two laboratories during 1966 on specimens submitted by general practitioners and the Health Department.
